Project Challenge -- Helping Youth Serve Their Community
  Community Service

Teaching young people to give of themselves to others is the most basic component of the Project Challenge System, “Helping Youth Serve Their Community”, that is quite simply what Project Challenge does. Through community service, Project Challenge participants are introduced to the spirit of helping those in need. During this phase of the Project Challenge System, the youth participate in many community oriented activities such as working with Habitat for Humanity, sponsoring canned food drives for donation to local food banks, visiting elderly, and giving support to the needy in their community.

Project Challenge also sponsors and facilitates cultural enrichment and recreational opportunities. Project Challenge supports schools, church youth groups, and other community organizations by providing its staff, equipment and resources, when available.

No matter what background these young people have come from, helping those in their community softens their hearts, instills a positive self-image and a sense of community involvement. Through all phases of the Project Challenge System the youth gain vital self-respect by realizing their time and talents are their greatest assets, which are greatly needed and easily given within their community.

If you have a great idea for community service in your area please contact your local Project Challenge Office!

Through Children's Eyes relates the hopes, dreams and fears of some of the children involved in Project Challenge North Carolina in their own words, and in the process they reveal much about the workings of a child's mind. They are more than just small adults, and while many of their dreams are material, far too many are concerned with the sometimes harsh realities of their own lives, while working to build their own futures.
